POETRY OUT LOUD!

My poem is called trees. The relation between me and this poem starts at the title. Trees. First green is my favorite color and it basically comes from trees. I've always been a hippy in that way for some reason, for i love trees. Some thing about them just make happy.
Then then the first stanza,
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
Thats like just how amazing trees are, and you'll never see anything lovelier. I love trees i think they are totally lovely and i love how the poet, Joyce Kilmer, states that from the beginning.
And the second stanza,
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
Now this is a really weird line but if you really think about it, it means nothing more than the roots going in to the earth, just in an odd way. This reminds me of a child which is weird but like a tree one person on the earth or child, but theres so many more than just them, sucking all the nutrients from the earth like a mother feeding her child, or a tree feeding into the soil.
And the third stanza,
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
this is just like the second stanza in the way that it resembles a human.
and so on, its the true meaning and how it resembles things that i like about this poem.
Its about trees but also life, creatures.
Almost a metaphor, not quite.

For this competition i took mrs. gilmans advice in the sense of going through it and paraphrasing it just so i could really understand it. Which is going to make a major difference when I'm reciting it. Memorization as well, because there is great imagery, rhyme, and meter its easy for me to picture what the poem is talking about and then getting the beat in my head.

Fire and ice by robert frost

Some say the world will end in fire
some say in ice
but what i've tasted of disire
i hold with those who favor fire
but i think i know enough of hate
to say the destruction ice
is also nice and would sufice

the poem goes along these likes and really speaks something to me. But it starts at the title
Fire and Ice
thats how alot of things are alot of the time. Yes or no. Fire or ice. hot or cold. this way or the total opposite. Not always a good thing but just how it is, how life can be.
then the first line. Some say the world will end in fire. This is like exactly how it sounds some say the world will end in fire. Fire can mean all sorts of things. Disire, fire, heat, wrong, hell, red, maddness, ect.
And some say in ice. Ice can be pertrayed as other things as well. Inevitableness, coldness, frozen, but mainly inevitableness for me.
Then it says from what ive tasted of disire, i hold with those who favor fire. This to me means that I have even done wrong and i know it "tastes" good so who else wouldn't? So i agree with fire because its alot ot resist.
But because i know enough of hate or because i know its wrong
to say the destruction ice, would also be nice and would sufice, this, the last three lines to me mean that because i do know that maybe the world would end better inevitably instead of from our doing and that would be nice and if others woulds see that to i would in fact happen or sufice.

i do think about how the world will end but its kinda the opposite for me. I believe the would will end in fire because of our wrong doing and nobody is going to get the whole world to listen so it would end inevitably so why even think it would be nice?
yes it would be nice but we humans are greedy little creatures and most of us dont even worry about the world.
Fire in my opinion could also be polution becase it is ending the world and its evil for say.
but for the poet to even get his hopes up for the inevitabiliy is silly.

the movie

the movie was kinda odd in some scenes. Especially the court room scene. The court room setting was how i imagined it but different in some ways. I actually imagined it a little less crowded but not neeeisarally smaller maybe bigger so it apeared less crowded. also mayella was kinda a phycopath, minus the kinda. Man she was crazy, i mean i knew she would have weird facial expressions but she was tweaking out. i know i was not the only person who was wondering what she was on...
joking!
but she was a little out of the ordinary. I would have imagined her like that if she actually did get raped but she wasnt soooo.
Also i imagine tom a little smaller in body size. But i liked his voice and how he projected at the exact right moments. good job tom
Then there is mr. gilmer. He was just like i imagined rude and very rasist. He porttrayed his character very good in the sense that he was cruel and rasist, and thats who he was as a person.
This novel would mean alot to someone who had a family in that situation and its very important im sure to someone who suffered like these characters did in their own lives.

to kill a mocking bird and how its not changed but effected my life

As i said in the subject, to kill a mocking bird didnt really change my life but it effected it. It effected it in the way that i know ive already learned most of those lessons but when your living your life and experiencing new things you dont really think about them. Reading the book with all sorts of lessons its like re learning them for a second time. They changed my perspective and i guess you could say, my life.
treat people how you weant to be treated
never kill a mocking bird
things can be cruel, thats life
rasim is all around but it doesnt mean its right
walk in their shoes before you judge them
and much more all are important and all shouldnt be forgotten.

life lessons

Jem and scout snuck into the court room when tom robbinsons trial was going on. Anyone could have seen that tom was innocent but he got convicted anyway. Jem and scout didnt understand this. When they were having this conversation with atticuss he once said, "They've done it before and they did it tonight and they'll do it again . . ."(213) And they will do it again. Convicting a man on false pretenses but they will do it again and the children needed to understand that. Things arent always right for say and justice isn't always served but sometimes it is and when it is it should matter the most.
When it does happen you should parish it because we do not live in a perfect world. its important for scout and jem to learn this so when things do get cruel they wont be so down and will understand why and that it will happen several times in there life. When you learn these things you learn as a person and thats crucial.

six weeks have gone by

THEMES

To kill a mocking bird has many themes, but the most important theme to me would be, the most important life lesson in this book. That would be to never kill a mocking bird. A mocking bird is also any living creature or living thing that is inocent. When Atticus say to never kill a mocking bird he means this as mocking birds do nothing mean or cruel to us so why should we to them? Mrs. maudie expails this to the children after atticus says this to them after jem gets a gun. Boo radely is an example of a mocking bird because he is an inoccent being that gets picked on and gets rumors made about him because of his childhood and how he grew up. Another example is tom robbinson. tom robbinson is a mocking bird because he gets trialed for a rape that in plain sight he did not commit. He was trialed on the fact that he is a black man and a white man testified against his word. Tom is convicted and proven guilty. And then to top off that when tom went to jail he made a mistake and tried to run away, but then the jail gaurds (who were white) decided to start shooting, "...17 bullet holes in him." (235) . Another example would be all the black people in general in the town of maycomb. They live in a society where they are not equal and are treated barely better than animals even when they do nothing but help out. All of these are examples and proof that this is a main theme and very important.
Boo radelys actions when he was a child , like stabbing his parents with scissars* is wrong but from this alone and other rumors his whole life is living at home and getting made fun of. This is wrong as are all of these exampls but this especially bacause those rumors and the reputation they put on him made his life what it is, the old creepy guy who the children are instructed to stay away from. As for tom robbinson everyone knows this was wrong. Toms actions didnt include what he did, but what he didnt do, commit rape. He was not guilty. thats all i have to say about that. And for the people of maycomb that society is and was not right and we found that out so now in 2008 everyone are/is equal. the way it should be.

Atticus as a father

Atticus finch is a good father. He knows when to be strict and knows when to let things go. As a father to jem and scout he trys to understand there point of view. So when Jem or scout complain or do something thats not right he just takes it calmly and trys to teach them lessons. Atticus one time says "... you never really undersand a person until you consider things from his point of view" (30) he says that to scout when she is making fun of someone . That is a common lesson learned by everyone one point in another in their life.
My parents are similar in someways to atticus, when they make a desision, that goes, no compromise. But that can also be a good thing. Sometimes... anyways atticus as a father wouldnt be bad i think the thing that makes any child want him as a father is the fact that he is so extremely understanding. My parents arent always.
